Deep Ocean Earrings

These earrings were inspired by the recent discoveries made by a team of scientists exploring the uncharted waters of the Indian Ocean. While mapping giant underwater mountains, they encountered a multitude of previously unknown deep-sea creatures decked out with all kinds of bizarre features including twinkling, bioluminescent organs.

I paired two unique boulder opals that had similar bands of irridescent colors ranging from peacock blue to neon green. Each earring was carved by hand and posseses a unique personality. Marrying strange shells and mermaid tails - reimagined treasures from the deep.

The earrings were made for the Opal Show at Shibumi Gallery. The opals were generously donated by long time Berkeley jeweler Bob Grabowski and his wife. Proceeds of the opal sales go to the Silvera Jewelry School scholarship fund for students in need of financial assistance.
