DJ Mix: Garden of Life | 01
Garden of Life | 01 is the first release in a new mix series produced in collaboration between Kirsten Muenster Jewelry and Boogie Down Reductions, the DJ project of Kirsten's husband and business partner, Joseph Ternes. The mix is a selection shaped by what they love, standout tracks chosen by Kirsten over the years, and arranged by Joseph into a single listening arc.
Joseph has spent over twenty-five years working in e-commerce, design, and fashion, with many of those years also producing the soundtrack to the KMJ studio. He has a deep music library spanning rare 1970s jazz-funk, Brazilian MPB, classic and contemporary soul, lovers rock and dub, disco, boogie, and golden-era hip-hop; all the soulful grooves he fell in love with while living and partying in New York City in the 80s and 90s. Kirsten and Joseph met in Philly in 1994 and discovered a shared taste in music; the courtship began through mix tapes that became the score of their life together. The artistry that comes out of her studio has always been in conversation with the sound coming from Joseph's selections.
The mix opens at sunrise with Azymuth's "Manhã" and closes with a Bill Withers Brazilian Remix, moving through bossa, modal soul-jazz, mid-70s jazz-funk, post-Tropicália, and UK Street Soul. Offered as positive vibes, the songs celebrate creativity, love, beauty, and the natural world. More installments will follow.
