This is the third piece in the "Moth Series" featuring a unique pair of pocket druzy petrified wood cabochons. The word “druzy” comes from the French word “druse” meaning incrustation or crystalline coating. These stones formed a beautiful crust of tiny shimmering coppery/pink druzy inside the pockets.

A gorgeous irridescent grey Tahitian Pearl hangs from the hand-carved, Brutalist/Mid-Century Modern inspired structure. This statement piece has a dreamlike feel, like a character in a fairytale. 

The word Reliquiae refers to fossilized remains of animals or plants. When trees are fossilized, they become petrified wood. The organic tree tissue is buried and mineralized, turning into rock. After the framework of silica forms along the cell walls, minerals gradually fill the remaining spaces. Unlike other plant fossils, which are typically impressions or compressions, petrified wood is a three-dimensional representation of the original organic material.

The stones are one-of-a-kind, with distinctive colors and patterns. They can break if dropped or hit against a hard surface, so this unique, natural material must be handled with care.
