Ametrine Necklace with Leaves Clasp

A hand-knotted strand of faceted Brazilian ametrine, the bi-color quartz that holds both purple amethyst and golden citrine within a single crystal. The beads run a soft, pale lavender into warm honey-gold. Some carry the full transition from one zone to the other across a single faceted stone. A sculptural Leaves clasp in yellow bronze fastens the strand. It is meant to be worn to the side, where it reads as part of the design rather than a closure to hide.

The Leaves clasp is hand-carved in wax and cast in yellow bronze. It slides open in one direction and holds its interest from every angle, a small sculptural object at the front of the necklace. Each strand is knotted by hand between the beads.

Ametrine's two colors come from natural variation in iron content, temperature, and radiation as the crystal formed in the earth. Brazilian ametrine is valued for the clarity of that color break and its clean brilliance. The purple and gold meet along a single line of quartz. No two strands draw the same balance between the two zones.
