Banksia Pod Earrings - Silver

Post earrings inspired by the Australian banksia pod, with small clusters hand-carved in wax and then cast in silver. Sold as a set, the pair mirror each other and frame the face. Kirsten's work distills and reinterprets nature's diverse patterns, textures, forms, and imperfections rather than reproducing them identically.

Cast in sterling silver using the lost-wax method, each earring begins as a wax model hand-carved at the bench. In fire-prone regions, many plants and trees evolve remarkable adaptations to ensure their species' survival. The banksia relies on both fire and water, with follicles that split open only after being burned by fire and then soaked by the rains that follow. These clustered seed chambers inspired several pieces in the studio collection.

Why do the two earrings differ slightly?
Each piece is hand-carved as an individual wax model, so the design is mirrored. There are subtle differences between the left and right earrings.
