Banksia Root Ring - Silver

The Banksia Root Ring rises from the finger as a tight grouping of open seed chambers. The unusual form draws the eye into its interior architecture as the root-like tendrils of the band taper and twist around the finger for a comfortable, secure fit. Available with or without black oxidation, the non-oxidized version reads bright and lets the silver surface catch light. The oxidized version offers a moody contrast.

In regions prone to fire, many plants and trees evolve remarkable adaptations that ensure the survival of their species. The banksia relies on both fire and water, its follicles split open to release seeds only after they are burned by fire and then soaked by the rains that follow. These visually captivating clustered seed chambers inspired several pieces in the studio. The Banksia Root Ring is rich in texture, with a band reimagined as a tangle of roots winding around the finger.

The Australian banksia pod, whose clustered seed chambers split open only after exposure to fire and then rain. The cycle of destruction and regeneration informs both the visual language and the philosophy behind the series.

Should I choose the oxidized or non-oxidized finish?
The oxidized finish offers a moody matte gray/black with subtle hints of bright silver along the edges. The non-oxidized version reads brighter and lets the carved relief read through light alone. Both will mellow naturally with wear.
