Cast in yellow bronze using the lost-wax method, the hair stick begins as a wax model hand-carved at the bench. The form was inspired by the callistemon (also known as the bottlebrush), a shrub that grows all over Kirsten's San Francisco neighborhood. The bright fuchsia stamens and flowers are filled with pollen, drawing bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The piece carries that botanical reference into bronze, with verdigris patina filling the recessed pod openings.
