Kirsten Muenster's Bronze Jewelry
Why Bronze
Bronze, a copper alloy, captures crisp sculptural detail and wears in beautifully. Kirsten uses yellow bronze for its warm, grounded tone and the way it holds carved texture. Bronze jewelry has a documented history from Bronze Age bracelets to museum collections today, valued for strength, castability, and color. Kirsten's bronze pieces are cast in small runs and finished by hand in San Francisco.
Process (Lost-Wax)
Kirsten begins by carving each design in wax. The model is invested; the wax is “lost,” and molten bronze fills the cavity. This is the art of lost-wax casting, a time-tested method for fine jewelry and sculpture. After casting, we cut from the tree, file, and finish to bring out the form.
Patina
With wear, bronze burnishes on the high points while recesses deepen, building quiet depth. Select designs receive a controlled verdigris patina—the blue-green surface characteristic of copper-alloy art—to heighten contrast.
Our Commitment
At Kirsten Muenster Jewelry, we create handmade jewelry utilizing recycled metals, responsibly sourced stones, and sustainable studio practices. We follow a thoughtful slow fashion approach and each piece is imbued with curiosity, innovation, and meticulous craft. Our yellow bronze is not plated or coated. We embrace the natural aging process and the color will evolve and change over time. Pieces are in a symbiotic relationship with the wearer. The edges that are touched more often get brighter, while the recess areas get darker, adding a beautiful depth and patina to the work.
Styling
Bronze has a rich golden color that pairs beautifully with everything. Mix bronze and silver jewelry with gold and vintage pieces - its presence enhances any curated collection. Make a statement, invite exploration, and tell a story with your jewelry.
Caring
Kirsten Muenster's bronze jewelry is a testament to the enduring allure of this rich alloy. The warm, golden hues of each piece are enriched by the natural patina that develops over time.
As you wear bronze jewelry, the areas that are touched most often will take on a brighter sheen. The recessed spaces will deepen in color, adding depth to the design. To ensure that your jewelry maintains its unique character, store in a cool, dry environment. Avoid wearing your handmade bronze jewelry in the shower or while swimming. Store individual pieces in a sealed plastic bag to prevent scratches and tarnish.
